About Catan – Rise of the Inkas

Way before the Inkan or Incan Empire dominated Peru, there were already numerous advanced indigenous cultures that were established and declined in South America’s Andean regions. The Wari built urban commerce centers complete with classy routes of trade between cities. There was also the Tiwanaku responsible for the development of advanced practices in agrarian and were successful shepherds of llamas and alpacas. On the other hand, the Lambaueque were famous master craftsman acclaimed for their intricate work with silver and gold. These cultures and a lot of other historic indigenous peoples paved way to Inkan Empire’s eventual rise that dominated the place for a hundred years.

Rise of the Inkas will confront you with more new strategic challenges
Game Rise of the Inkas

The game Catan – Rise of the Inkas will confront you with more new strategic challenges while developing your own tribe. The development works similarly to Settlers of Catan’s core mechanics. Build settlements and roads, acquire development cards to gain an advantage, and use the robber to stop your opponents. Eventually, however your earlier tribes will reach their pinnacle and get supplanted.

While playing Catan – Rise of the Inkas, you have to decline the early tribes twice so you can make way for the era of a new tribe. You get rid of all the constructed roads on the board and use vines to cover the settlement to signify that these are no longer up for development. However, it isn’t the end of the game. Once your tribe declines, you can put a new settlement on the available space on the board and continue with the game with the new settlement.

How can you win in this game

The declined settlements of your tribe cannot be developed into cities anymore and you also cannot create roads from these. The tribes of your opponents can even replace them. But, provided that they stay on the board, the cities and settlements of your previous culture will continue giving you resources.  The game ends once your third tribe is established. You win if you are the first one to completely develop the tribe and lead the rise of Inkan Empire.

Rise of the Inka has more nuanced strategic options. As you reach the pinnacle of the development of a tribe, your opponents search for means to make the most out of declined settlements and try taking the best locations and make these their own. You have to carefully consider when you will advance your tribe because you will be in a compromised position if you just rush to advance because your opponents may claim the resources you counted on.

Most of the familiar rules of Catan are somewhat changed to create a fresher Catan experience including Largest Band of Warriors and Longest Road. Play Catan – Rise of the Inkas and experience complete fun and enjoyment.
